Our Story

A Creative Legacy

Andrew Burchett, founder and president of Kingdom Arts, grew up singing and acting with his family in the massive Christmas and Easter productions at Neighborhood Church in Chico. His first solo came at age six, holding a baby lamb during an Easter play. When the Dome was completed in 1987, he remembers that very next Christmas—riding across the stage in a horse-drawn carriage while snow fell on the set and an ice skater spun on a stage-turned-frozen pond. Musical theater was one of the primary ways Neighborhood Church shared the good news of Jesus with our city. For over 62 years, creativity has been part of their DNA, but it had been decades since they last hosted a  large-scale creative production. That’s why, in the spirit of Neighborhood’s founders, Ken and Wava Backlund, Andrew felt compelled—as lead pastor—to write a dramatic musical for our city.

Along the way, Andrew realized that this was not going to be a one time event, and that he had other seeds of ideas growing in him, so he set up the Northern California Kingdom Arts Collective (Kingdom Arts) to be the foundation for any and all projects that are developed. From the beginning, Kingdom Arts has chosen to partner with other congregations in Chico and the wider region to make this happen. It’s been such a joy to strengthen relationships with other pastors and churches so that people from across our community can bring their gifts to the stage.

A Leap of Faith

From O Favored One, which debuted to great success in December of 2025, to a Passion Play that is being developed now and will premiere Easter of 2027, the idea of writing, directing, and producing shows of this magnitude—with such limited experience—has been absolutely terrifying. This journey has been a faith walk from the very beginning.

Andrew has asked many along the way for help, advice, prayer, and even financial support. This has been a labor of love, requiring literally thousands of hours over the past three years. Along the way, we’ve learned so much, and we’ve had countless opportunities to admit that we didn’t know what to do—and to ask for help.

Time and again, we’ve watched Jesus come through. We’ve seen people come alive with joy as they use their gifts to join in this crazy vision. We started with no money, few assets, and only a dream. But now, scores of people have come together to make that dream a reality.

And through it all, God has been our Executive Producer—so there’s no reason to be afraid.

Are there reserved seats?

Yes! While the Dome has pews, we are labeling each seat so that when you purchase your ticket, you’ll know exactly where you’ll be sitting for the performance. That means no more arriving an hour early to spread jackets and programs to save seats!

For those who prefer, there will also be general admission seating in the balcony, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Volunteer ushers will be stationed in every aisle to help you quickly and easily find your seat.

Can I get a group discount on tickets?

Absolutely! We encourage you to buy a block of seats for a large group because everything is better with friends!

Tier 1 gives a discount for groups of 4-8. If you need more than 8, you can buy multiple sets of group tickets.

Once you have chosen your seats, choose the Group price category as you are checking out.

What is the running time of the performance?

The performance will run approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission. The first act is considerably longer than the second, and we anticipate the show will conclude before 10:00 pm for evening shows and by 5:00 pm for Sunday matinées..

Is the musical family friendly?

Absolutely! Please consider if your little ones can sit for the whole show, which is 2 hours and 15 min. There will be a 20 min intermission.
We hope your whole family enjoys the show and it sparks great conversations!

Will I get run over by a live animal?

Well… if you get up and wander into the aisle at the wrong moment, it’s certainly possible!

We are thrilled to be partnering with animal actors to help tell the story of O Favored One. After all, you can’t tell the story of Jesus’ birth in a stable without animals being present. And yes, there will undoubtedly be a little mess on the carpets at some point!

Which animals, you ask? Well, you’ll just have to come see the show to find out.

Are ticket refunds available?

All ticket sales are final. If you can't make the showtime on your ticket, we recommend gifting your ticket to someone who will enjoy the show.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the venue is ADA compliant and fully wheelchair accessible on the main floor. Ramps and accessible seating are available. Please note: Balcony seating is only accessible by stairs, and there is no elevator to the balcony.

Do you offer accommodations for guests who are hearing impaired?

Yes. We are offering one special performance with Closed Captioning for song lyrics only. Day & Time TBD. We encourage guests who would benefit from captioning to reserve tickets early for this performance to secure the best seating.
